Here are various bits of information which may be of use before, during and after the workshop.
Arrival Information
Düsseldorf International Airport is the nearest airport. Essen is easily reached from the airport or other places by train to the Essen Hauptbahnhof (Essen Hbf).
Workshop location
The Workshop will take place in the Mathematics building, located at 9 Thea-Leymann Str. Note that the Math building is NOT on the main University campus, which is about a 10 minute walk away. The Math building is a short (3 min.) walk from the U-Bahn (subway) station Berliner Platz, and a somewhat longer (15 min.) walk from the Hbf. You can reach Berliner Platz from the Hbf via the subway trains U-11, U-17 and U-18. Here is a map of the area around Berliner Platz, showing you how to get from there to the Mathematics building. the main entrance to the Math building is at the south east corner, opposite from the Holiday Inn.
Conference Dinner
We will be having a dinner on Wednesday evening, starting at 7 p.m., at the restaurant Hülsmannshof, Lehnsgrund 14 a, Essen. This is in the area of Essen called the Margarethenhöhe and is easily reached by taking the U-17 to the stop Laubenweg; it's about 10 minutes via the U-17 from the Hbf. You will need to sign up for the conference dinner by Monday morning (June 2) at the latest. You can do this here. The dinner is on us, but you will have to pay for all beverages yourself.
Restaurants
There are many good restaurants in the pedestrian zone in the center of Essen and along the Rüttenscheider Straße, roughly between the U-11 station Rüttenscheider Stern and the tram stop Flora.

Mensa
We suggest you go to the University Mensa for lunch. At the Mensa, you will be able to pay with cash, you won't need any special University ID card. You will get a better rate if you say "STICHWORT WORKSHOP MATHEMATIK" to the cashier when you go to pay. An alternative to the Mensa would be either go into the nearby Limbecker Platz or to the pedestrian zone beyond this, where there are lots of places to eat.
Internet
The Mathematics building has both wifi and ethernet access to the internet. If you have eduroam access, you can connect via the wifi sender "eduroam". If you do not have eduroam access, use the guest access account that you were sent via email to sign into eduroam. If these do not work well, you can also connect with an ethernet cable to our building servers without the need of getting any access permission.
Office space
Unfortunately, we do not have office space available for the workshop participants. There is space on the 2nd floor available for your use: W-2.20(LUDI), W-2.19(PC-Pool) and N-2.24(Arbeitsraum).
Reimbursements
If we are covering your hotel costs, we will be paying the hotel bill directly. You should not pay for the room (although other charges, such as mini-bar, or internet fees, will not be covered by us and you will have to take care of these yourself). For travel reimbursements, you will need to send in the original tickets along with the reimbursement form; for plane tickets that were booked over the internet, you can just send in a copy with the reimbursement form. Please be advised that the reimbursement for travel or other expenses must be filed within six months of the beginning of the workshop. After this period, no reimbursement will be possible.
